Dr. Lauren Wright-Harris (Dr. Lo), is currently living in Greensboro, NC. She received her Bachelors of Music Degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Oakwood University, in Huntsville, Alabama, and Georgia State University, in Atlanta, where she received her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance, all the while performing many roles, including Baba/Madame Flora in Menotti’s The Medium, Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Cecilia March in Adamo’s Little Women.  Lauren was a part of Atlanta Opera’s Educational Studio Tour of Dorff’s Stone Soup, in which she sung the role of the Mayor.  Upon graduating from GSU, Lauren became a part of the Sarasota Opera’s Young Apprentice Program.  For two seasons, she was able to hone her craft, perform across the city of Sarasota, and work with stellar coaches, stage directors, and conductors, as well as cover the role of Mary in Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman.  She was awarded the Sarasota Opera Guild’s Young Artist Award.  Lauren has also performed the roles of La Badessa and La zia Principessa (Suor Angelica), Knusperhexe (Hansel und Gretel), Madame Armfeldt (A Little Night Music), Praskowia (The Merry Widow), Flosshilde (Gotterdammerung), and Ines (Il Trovatore).  She has transitioned from Mezzo-soprano to Soprano and debuted her first soprano role with The Cleveland Opera as Serena from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess (2019).  She received her DMA at The University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG), where she focused her research on the music of Black composers and the representation of the Black community, culminating in a dissertation lecture-recital based on the presentation song cycle, A Great Cloud of Witnesses, using original poetry and set to music by composer Jarrett Roseborough.   She has taught at Fayetteville State University, Wingate University, and Queens University of Charlotte, where she had  thriving voice studios. She has a fruitful career singing both Mezzo and Soprano roles including Mamie (Emmett Till: An Opera in Three Acts), Mary (William Grant Still’s Opera Highway 1, USA), and Mère Marie (Dialogue of the Carmelites). Dr. Wright-Harris looks forward to joining the faculty at High Point University’s School of Arts and Design, within the Department of Music, this fall.
