Chapel Hill and surrounding areas have wonderful band programs in their public schools and brass instruments are an important component to any band, so choosing a brass instrument and learning to play it is a great way to participate in middle and high school music.
Common brass instruments include the euphonium, the trombone, the trumpet, and the tuba.
Being in your school band is great, but how do you get ready for it or improve your musical abilities once you are in? CHSMA brass lessons offer helpful, one-on-one attention from experienced and supportive instructors who can fully focus on your learning style, your needs and your musical goals.
Instructors help guide students in breath management, efficient fingering, and embouchure development. They also help teach the fundamentals of music: music reading, counting, phrasing and how to produce a better, richer sound from their instrument. This training helps them succeed and enjoy their playing, which leads to lifelong appreciation for music.
We generally recommend beginning lessons for brass instruments starting at 8 to 9 years old. Why? By this age, most children have their adult teeth, which are helpful for proper playing of the instrument, and are capable of reading and meeting the physical demands required for success. We are always happy to assess your child, answer questions about musical readiness, and advise you about when to start musical training.
