Our Students

We believe that anyone, regardless of perceived skill, experience level or age can learn to sing or play a musical instrument.

Children

We assess readiness for lessons by evaluating age, level of interest, motivation to practice, and adult support during an in-person consultation with a Director. Students as young as 4 years old who are ready may take lessons in piano or strings.

By the time students are 9 years old, we feel they can successfully learn to play any instrument that interests them!

Teens

For busy teenage students, we offer after-school lessons Monday through Friday with appointments as late as 8:30 PM. We’re also open on Saturdays and can usually find a teacher and time that suits their needs and those of their families.

Adults

We love adult students and we are able to match them with a teacher who understands their goals and interests. Our adult students take lessons for a wide variety of reasons:

  • Some are renewing a forgotten skill from their youth or teen years
  • Some are starting a new skill from scratch
  • Some wish to acquire more skill and mastery in their existing musical endeavors
  • Some are college or graduate students who want to supplement their academic studies with music
  • Some are seniors looking for an activity that brings joy and growth to their lives

Families

Finding a convenient lesson time for families is a top priority at CHSMA. With nearly 30 teachers and lessons given 6 days a week, we are uniquely equipped to provide quality music education for your whole family, no matter how busy your schedules are!

Students with Special Needs

We are proud to offer adaptive music lessons to our students who have special needs or who have struggled to learn music in a more traditional manner. Adaptive music lessons are provided by a board-certified music therapist, are available to any age student and are tailored to reach individual musical (and non-musical) goals.
