A committed educator, Lauren has been teaching music in the Triangle since 1998. In addition to teaching private flute and piano lessons, Lauren has taught elementary music and served as a flute clinician in local schools. Her flute students have earned positions in all-state band, Governor’s School, and Triangle Youth Philharmonic, and her piano students have participated in local piano festivals.
Lauren’s lessons are tailored to the individual, featuring learning games for the youngest children and emphasizing rhythmic accuracy, solid technique, and playing with expression for all of her students. She has a special interest in fostering effective practice strategies in her students and helping them learn to perform confidently.
As a performer, she plays flute with the Raleigh Flute Choir and the Triangle Wind Ensemble and has performed with the Durham Symphony, the Raleigh Symphony, and the Tar River Orchestra. She has earned positions in the National Flute Association Professional Flute Choir and has toured Europe and Asia with the International Flute Orchestra.
When not teaching or playing, she can be found on a hiking trail or reading on the couch next to her dog.
