Mario A. Castillo is a highly motivated educator who is committed to the growth and success of his students. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he moved during his elementary school years to Burlington, North Carolina. Mario studied Clarinet and obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Music from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He also went to Greensboro College in order to earn his Post Graduate Licensure in Music Education.
Mario has extensive experience as a band and orchestra director for middle school students, teaching music performance, theory, contextual relevance, and music history, with the goal of teaching critical thinking skills in the process. In his previous roles, Mario established after-school programs, open practice and tutoring sessions, and organized school and community involvement through public performances, partnerships with local businesses, and elementary school outreach visits.
Mario worked as a music teacher in Danville Public Schools, where he developed and executed music education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives. Currently, he is a Social Worker for the Department of Social Services in Alamance County. Mario is passionate about contributing his own knowledge and experience to his job and expanding the growth of institutions’ Fine Arts programs.
