Musical Theatre Voice Training at CHSMA

In the 23 years that we’ve been teaching voice lessons, we’ve seen a huge movement away from more classical singing and into all forms of musical theater styles and techniques. Our voice teachers have met this demand by taking special musical theater pedagogy courses, staying tuned in to new shows and trends in MT productions and by networking with colleagues at university MT programs and professional organizations to learn how to teach and train students in this special category.

Our students have also started auditioning for MT college programs more and more, and since it is a very competitive undertaking, we’ve created a MT COLLEGE PREP PROGRAM designed to train and prepare students working towards a degree in Musical Theater for the challenging world of college auditions and classes. Last year we had six students in the Prep Program and we expect that number to grow each year.

We are proud to have students who have competed in the national levels of MT singing competitions and we have sent students to MT College Programs in many great schools: Elon University, University of Southern California, Shenandoah University, New York University, Point Park University, Boston Conservatory, Barton College, University of Michigan, East Carolina University, UNCG, Slippery Rock University, Fordham University, and Marymount Manhattan College.

Graduates of CHSMA are currently appearing on Broadway, in Broadway tours, in regional theaters, cruise ships, theme parks and on television and in movies as well as in many other areas of the professional music industry.
